FORUM LA RENCONTRE 2006

Forum on artistic and cultural mediation
Renewing the relationship between art, artists, and citizens

September 15, 2006
Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec

In the wake of the Convertibles exhibition in Quebec City, the Secretariat of the Journées de la culture is organizing a forum to reflect and share ideas, and to explore the various avenues identified by these shared creative experiences.

The key issue of access to culture and the right to culture is indeed more and more influenced by the idea of mediation – two-way communication between the artists, their works of art, and the public. A growing number of cultural players (artists, organizations, institutions, governments, and municipalities) wish to put forth new ways for the public or citizens to make cultural products their own and enter into relationships with them. The question of creativity is at the heart of these mediation processes by providing spaces of discovery and experimentation between the various forms of artistic and cultural expressions and society.

The Convertibles model will thus be seen in perspective with other mediation experiments conducted in Quebec Canada, in France and in Belgium.

The forum was held in French.
