The Billy Goat of Notre-Dame
Students’ mascot celebrates the 31st tacon-site, at the Économusée de la lainerie in Saint-Fulgence, in the land of the Ouananiche
During the Journées de la culture 2010, students at École Notre-Dame in Alma, in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region, created a new mascot: a billy goat made of wool and textile fibres with the help of artist Stéfany Tremblay. The project was to celebrate the installation in Saint-Fulgence of the 31st tacon-site, one of a series of stone sculptures marking a ouananiche-shaped circuit around the region, an initiative of the artists collective Interaction Qui.

Identity Through a Pinhole
Two artists use the camera obscura as a tool for social integration
For about 10 years, artists Miki Gingras and Patrick Dionne have been introducing people to the principles of the camera obscura and undertaking social and cultural photography projects with the organization they founded, Diasol. Their latest project is a photo mural entitled Identity, which grew out of different activities and reflections on the theme of identity at École secondaire Henri-Bourassa in the ethnically diverse neighbourhood of MontréalNord.

Article 27
An Instrument for Cultural Democracy in Belgium’s French Community
Launched as a pilot project in Brussels in 1999, Article 27 is named for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights article that states "Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits". The organization now has the mission to facilitate access to all forms of culture in order to empower those living in poverty.

Social Solidarity in the Heart of the Appalachians
Saint-Venant-de-Paquette’s poetry walk breathes new life into the region
For close to 15 years, the hundred or so inhabitants of the tiny village of Saint-Venant-de-Paquette have worked together to create a poetry walk and save their historic church. The poetry walk is a trail connecting some ten sites featuring works by local artist Roger Nadeau, writings by Quebec poets and interpretative elements about the surrounding forest and horticultural environment. Local residents and visitors gather at the poetry walk’s tree house or church-museum for performances, lectures, plays or creative workshops or come to lend a hand during work bees.

COOP Tuyau Vert and the Hisser Haut project
A lyrical and conceptual evocation of the Saint Lawrence river
As part of the 2009 edition of the Journées de la culture, hundreds of small sails were perched over the rue Cul-de-Sac in Québec City, each one displaying a thought, a message or a memory related to the Saint Lawrence river. Mathieu Gotti and Isabelle Veilleux created the project Hisser haut!, a participative installation actively supported by the artisans of the Vert Tuyau cooperative and backed by the Coopérative de solidarité du Quartier Petit‑Champlain.
