The Intercultural Encounters
is an initiative of Culture pour tous to valorize professional artists from ethnocultural communities within the institutional arts and culture network.

The first three editions of the Intercultural Encounters
(2005-2008) were produced
by Culture pour tous with the financial participation of the Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles du Québec and Canadian Heritage.

Culture pour wishes to thank all the artists and organisms who helped making these three
last editions.

Rallye de la diversité

Four Public Artworks to celebrate Quebec’s Artistic Diversity

As part of the Diversity Rally and Quebec’s Week of Intercultural Encounters, Culture pour tous is responsible for instigating and coordinating the creation of four collective works in four Quebec cities. The Diversity Rally is a 400 km cycling tour for the 400th anniversary of Quebec City, which made stops in the cities of Granby, Sherbrooke, Victoriaville and Quebec City. The project was implemented with the support of the Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles du Québec and the participating cities.

Artists and projects:

GRANBY

Hélène Plourde in collaboration with Patricio Castro Vasquez, the Atelier 19 (Francine Charland), Solidarité ethnique régionale de la Haute-Yamaska (SERY), the high school L’Envolée and the City of Granby.

Dialogue, bas-relief made of wood and aluminum.
Writing and graphic composition workshops with immigrant citizens and the high school students serve as the basis for the creation of this collective work on the theme of intercultural dialogue. Installation on the wall outside the school L'Envolée, Parc Jean-Yves Phaneuf. Inauguration on September 23, 2008.

Hélène Plourde

SHERBROOKE

Nathalie Caron and Margrethe Ulvik in collaboration with the multiethnic school LaRocque and the Corporation Cité-des-Rivières.

Les bateaux-étoiles, fleet of reduced scale metal boats.
The installation is inspired by the idea of the initiation journey. The copper boats are inhanced with sails and ropes weved with nylon ropes by immigrant children from the LaRocque school.
Installation at the rotunda of la Passerelle des Draveurs near the Marché de la gare market.

Nathalie Caron et Margrethe Ulvik

VICTORIAVILLE

Lynda Baril, Laurent Luneau and Michèle Rappe in collaboration with Solidarité Nord-Sud, Association d’intégration sociale, the Communauté colombienne de Victoriaville and the City of Victoriaville.

L’aire de l’humanité, concrete sidewalk, tree and cast objects.
The concrete base is composed of about eighty 1 ft.-wide cubes each one containing a symbolic object for each of the forty participating immigrants. Installation at Place Sainte-Victoire, near the library.

QUÉBEC

Éric Côté and Pedro Nel Marquez in collaboration with the City of Quebec.

Visages de l’immigration, photographic portraits and texts on banners.
The installation is composed of a series of photographs representing residents of the capital from different origins, and texts by the Columbian writer. The installation is presented at La Fabrique and will circulate in different public spaces during the fall.
