  • Pay tribute to talent
  • Show your respect
  • Recognize merit and commitment
  • Express your gratitude

A special message to municipalities

The Journées de la culture present an opportunity for you to showcase local artistic and cultural life. Don’t miss the chance to support your artists, cultural workers, and all those who take part in this unique and highly unifying event.

Take advantage of the Journées de la culture to:

  • Hold an official launch at city hall
  • Become part of the Quebec-wide movement of municipal declarations, joining the municipalities that adopted resolutions in 2007
  • Plan activities by inviting artists and cultural organizations to participate
  • Display flags and banners on the streets to show your commitment to cultural development
  • Offer free transportation
  • Do whatever else you can think of!

Be creative… Go off the beaten path… Support people and groups that are not usually the focus of the cultural offering.

In 1997, at the request of the cultural sector, the Quebec National Assembly adopted a special motion designating the last Friday of September and the two following days as "Journées nationales de la culture."

Deadline: May 15, 2008

The Journées de la culture were instituted in 1997 to develop and reinforce the efforts of cultural democratization in Quebec. Held annually, the event gives the Quebec population an opportunity to discover and appreciate the arts and culture, free of charge These three days of the last week-end of September are a unique opportunity to show the value and the importance of arts and culture in the development of people and society.
To make it happen, Culture pour tous / Culture for all counts on the voluntary participation of more than 8,000 artists and cultural organizations that present thousands of activities and encounters between artists, cultural workers and citizens. Les Journées de la culture are also the fruit of the efforts of multiple partners from media and businesses areas. The collaboration of the media makes it possible to create each year a vast communication campaign supported by voluntary spokespeople. In 2006, some 350,000 people took part in the activities, which were held in more than 300 Quebec municipalities.

The Journées de la culture are organized by Culture pour tous.
