14th Edition of the Journées de la culture
September 24, 25 and 26, 2010
The economic and social benefits of cultural development are unquestionable. The numbers speak for themselves. According to the Conference Board, in 2007 the Canadian cultural sector was valued at 84.6 billion dollars, or 7.4% of GDP.
Nevertheless, providing access to arts and culture remains an issue. It is to meet this challenge that the Journées de la culture saw the light of day in 1997. Since then, thousands of artists, craftspeople, cultural workers and municipalities throughout Quebec have come together to accomplish this mission. We believe that the business sector can make a significant contribution.
This is why the 14th edition of the Journées de la culture is extending the call for participation to all spheres of activity. We are inviting the business sector to join in the festivities and to be part of an important communication campaign that reaches 2 million Quebecois. To participate you must submit an activity—to take place as part of the Journées de la culture—which meets the participation criteria and fits into one of the two menus proposed below.
Your company can choose an activity that emphasizes the creative process and involves employees in a participative process: a dance workshop with a professional choreographer or why not the creation of a collective work by joining the Art at Work program. You can also decide to showcase your artist‑employees’ creations by organizing an exhibition opening. What matters is to seize the opportunity that the Journées de la culture offer to forge links, stimulate creativity, support the artistic milieu, strengthen internal belonging, share common values and reach out to the community.www.culturepourtous.ca/artautravail/
