11th edition of the Journées de la culture: A resounding success!

Free shuttles were offered in Montreal

September 30 was the final day of the 11th edition of the Journées de la culture, with participation estimated at 350,000 people in 277 Quebec municipalities.

At the heart of the event were 7,000 artists, craftspersons and cultural workers who presented 2,500 free activities over three memorable days. The fact that 79% of those who organized activities observed tangible benefits for their organization is a sign that the Journées have a direct impact.

The promotional campaign achieved its goals: media coverage was more extensive than ever, thanks to the collaboration of the media and the original ad campaign broadcast free of charge on radio and television.

The Journées de la culture remains a unique movement built on generosity, good will, community spirit, and solidarity. Our thanks go out to all those who took part in the event as well as our partners: the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications et de la Condition féminine, the Ministère des Affaires municipales et des Régions, Canadian Heritage, the Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles, Hydro-Québec and TD Canada Trust.

Already, the Culture pour tous team is hard at work on the 12th edition, scheduled for September 26, 27 and 28, 2008. Mark those dates!

Culture pour tous at the Salzburg Global Seminar

Cultural Institutions without Walls:
New Models of Arts-Community Interaction
October 20 to 26, 2007, Salzburg, Austria

Salzburg Global Seminar

Louise Sicuro, president and CEO of Culture pour tous, was invited to take part in the Salzburg Global Seminar as a panelist. She had the honour of presenting Culture pour tous, its actions, and the founding ideas of the Journées de la culture, to around 70 participants from 29 countries. The model of the Journées de la culture and the event’s success in Quebec was so inspiring to the participants that the idea arose to organize a similar event on a global scale.

“I am returning from the seminar with a feeling of great satisfaction, first because it was a particularly rich experience in terms of personal connections. While the participants who attended the five-day seminar came

from a wide range of countries whose cultural resources differ considerably from what we have in Quebec, they shared a genuine commitment to the work of cultural mediation. I also had the opportunity to discover many original, inspiring projects that we’ll be sure to tell you about in our upcoming e-newsletters.”
