12th edition of the Journées de la culture:
a resounding success!

Les journées de la culture 2008

Arts and culture marked a 12th consecutive victory by the end of the Journées de la culture, which took place on last September 26, 27 and 28. This annual not-to-be-missed encounter mobilized 350,000 fans of culture in 295 Quebec municipalities, and this through a veritable parade of activities with each one more captivating than the other.

In Montreal more than 3,000 fans took advantage of the free TD Canada Trust shuttles buses that serviced 140 of the proposed activities in the city on Saturday and Sunday. The media coverage was once again very extensive with more than 750 articles and notices in the printed press, TV and radio throughout Quebec. More than 80% of the activity organizers noted a significant increase of visibility due to their participation.

5,570 persons demonstrated their support for culture by voting on the ivoteforculture.com. To read some of the commentaries.

We extent our thanks to the many supporters who loyally back the Journées de la culture: the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine, the Ministère des Affaires municipales et des Régions, Hydro-Québec, TD Canada Trust, Tourisme Québec, BOS advertising agency, Carat Strategem and all the radio stations and television channels who air the Journées de la culture ads for free.

Mark the date in your agendas: the next edition of the Journées de la culture will take place on September 25, 26 and 27, 2009.

Le Chat des artistes
(The Artists’ Cat)

Le CHAT des artistes

The Ateliers Créatifs Centre-Sud / Plateau Mont-Royal have converted an old industrial building into studios and workshops and offered them for rent to the not-for-profit artistic and cultural milieu. It has been named—in an ironic manner—in tribute to Jean-Pierre Ferland’s work “Le chat du café des artistes,” which tells the story of an artist who in an act of desperation offers his body as meat for a cat. The opening will take place in December 2008.
