Culturepedia – 2020 to 2024

THE FIRST CULTURAL DATA TRUST SERVING QUEBEC ORGANIZATIONS AND THE CANADIAN AND ACADIAN FRANCOPHONIE.

The beginnings of the project

In 2017, Culture pour tous brought together various cultural players or stakeholders to identify shared avenues for solutions and to reflect on funding issues for digital in culture. This initial exploratory approach aimed to identify needs and new practices in terms of financing to enable cultural organizations to make a successful digital shift. An action plan for the implementation of adapted financial innovations was also proposed.

Since 2018, Culture pour tous has been working on a project to share cultural data in Quebec. The organization has thus collaborated with TIESS (Territoires innovants en économie sociale et solidaire) to conduct research on social utility trusts (SUTs) in order to set up this project in a legal and functional manner.

Taking advantage of this momentum, Culture pour tous invited partners to officially join the reflection process and submitted the project to the Canada Council for the Arts, leading to its realization.

What is Culturepedia?

Culture and its mediation with audiences can have a positive impact on many aspects of society. Among the most important are the health and well-being of individuals and communities, democracy, solidarity, cultural citizenship, diversity, inclusion and the sharing of know-how.

Culturepédia is a social utility trust whose mission is to contribute to the provision of data to strengthen our knowledge of audiences and the impact of culture. It aims to help cultural organizations and partners achieve their social impact objectives by promoting the sharing and pooling of cultural data. The trust’s framework will enable the aggregation, protection, processing and valorization of data, while ensuring ethical, prudent and responsible governance.

Initiated by Culture pour tous, this collective project relies entirely on the collaboration of several pioneering partners: Territoires innovants en économie sociale et solidaire (TIESS), the Fédération culturelle canadienne-française (FCCF), Synapse C, La Vitrine and Les Arts et la Ville.
